Jamavar London Review: Quick Verdict
Jamavar London is worth visiting if you want an upscale Indian dining experience in Mayfair with refined presentation, elegant interiors and attentive service. It is best suited to special occasions rather than casual dining because prices are firmly in the luxury bracket.

- Website: Jamavar
- Location: Mayfair, London
- Price range: premium/luxury
- Best for: special occasions, date nights, business dinners
- Overall rating: 3.5/5
- Atmosphere: elegant, polished and intimate

What Is Jamavar London?

Jamavar London is a fine dining Indian restaurant in Mayfair known for bringing a more polished, luxurious take to Indian cuisine. It sits in the part of the London restaurant scene where food, setting and service all matter equally. This is not the sort of place people usually visit for a quick midweek dinner. It is a restaurant people choose when they want the full experience.
What makes Jamavar stand out is the way it balances traditional Indian influences with a more modern fine-dining presentation. The menu usually combines rich North Indian flavours, regional dishes and carefully plated mains that feel a step above the average high-end Indian restaurant in London.
For diners comparing it with other Indian restaurants in the capital, Jamavar positions itself firmly in the luxury end of the market. That means expectations are higher too: people are not just paying for the food, but also for the room, the service and the overall sense of occasion.
Where Is Jamavar London Located?
Jamavar London is located in Mayfair, one of the most polished dining neighbourhoods in the city. That alone says a lot about what kind of restaurant experience you can expect. Mayfair is full of high-end hotels, designer shops and destination restaurants, so Jamavar fits naturally into that part of London.
Its location makes it a strong choice for:
- visitors staying in central London
- shoppers in Mayfair
- Business diners meeting nearby
- couples looking for a smart dinner spot
- Anyone booking a celebratory meal in the West End
If location matters to you, Jamavar scores highly. It feels central, convenient and suitably upscale for the kind of dining experience it is aiming to offer.
Ambience and Interior at Jamavar Mayfair: First Impressions

Jamavar feels elegant without being cold. The interiors lean into rich colours, soft lighting, and upscale details, creating the kind of setting that works well for a date night, celebration, or a memorable dinner in central London. It is definitely on the smarter end of the London dining scene, but it does not feel overly stiff or intimidating.
The mood is far more refined than casual. It works especially well for:
- anniversaries
- birthdays
- date nights
- client dinners
- visitors who want a luxury London restaurant experience
Rightly so, I went to celebrate our anniversary lunch on a Saturday in May 2026. I chose lunch as we have a baby, and they allow kids under 6 to dine before cocktail hour.
The service also helps set the tone. Staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and used to guiding diners through the menu. At a Michelin-starred restaurant, that level of confidence matters, and here it adds to the overall sense that you are in experienced hands.
Menu at Jamavar London
The menu at Jamavar focuses on elevated Indian cuisine, with dishes inspired by different regions of India and presented in a way that feels refined rather than overly theatrical. This is not the place for a quick casual curry; it is a restaurant designed around careful cooking, balance, and detail.

What stands out most is how polished everything feels. Flavours are layered and confident, spice is handled with precision, and the dishes are clearly designed to feel luxurious without losing their identity. That balance can be hard to get right in fine dining, but Jamavar does it well. If you enjoy Indian food in London and want to compare experiences, this Farzi London Review: West End Restaurant Experience is another useful read, though Farzi offers a more playful and modern style.
There is a sense of occasion to the meal, from the presentation to the pacing. Portions are not enormous, but that is part of the format here. You are paying for quality, technique, and atmosphere as much as quantity. For diners expecting a traditional neighbourhood Indian restaurant experience, Jamavar will feel more formal and premium.

What We Ordered
Starter
A strong starter section is important in a restaurant like this because it sets the tone for the rest of the meal. At Jamavar, starters are likely to appeal most to diners who enjoy layered spice, careful seasoning and dishes that feel lighter and more polished than standard restaurant appetisers.

We ordered 2 starters:
- Dish name: Chandni Chowk Ki Aloo Tikki
- Short description: It is a indian street snack made of potato mash dumplings coated with crispy breadcrumbs.
- Taste verdict: The Aloo Tikki burst with flavours in our mouths. Me (of Indian origin) and my husband, who is of Portuguese origin, both truly enjoyed this starter.
- Would order again? Yes 10/10
- Dish name: Chicken Cutlet
- Short description: Chicken dumpling with curry sauce.
- Taste verdict: This starter was good, but felt underseasoned at the beginning. But the real flavour came into focus after using the dipping curry sauce.
- Would order again? Yes 9/10
Main Courses
Main courses are where Jamavar London really needs to justify its reputation and price point. In a fine dining Indian restaurant, diners are usually looking for a combination of depth, quality and control. They want bold flavour, but also finesse.
After the strong starters, we were hoping high. And I had thought I had chosen the right restaurant to celebrate our anniversary.

We ordered-
- Assorted Bread Basket: with Paneer naan and Garlic naan breads
- Shahi Palak Paneer: homemade cottage cheese, spinach, tomato, fenugreek, & fresh chilli
- Laal Maas: 8 Hour slow-cooked Hampshire lamb shank & Rajasthani chilli
- and some steamed Rice
Starters had set the bar high, but sadly, the mains didn’t keep up. Both the Lamb shank and Palak panner were under-flavoured and nothing to write home about as a Michelin-star dish.
We ordered both vegetarian dishes as well as non -vegetarian dishes to evaluate. They have plenty of vegetarian options, but sadly what we ordered didn’t taste worth our while and neither will we return to taste them again.
Desserts

Dessert can be an afterthought in some restaurants, but in a meal like this, it helps complete the experience. A strong dessert course should feel like a proper ending rather than something ordered out of habit.

We ordered
- Kesar Mango Rasmalai
- Pistachio Milk Cake
And we were given complimentary dark chocolate madelines.
The Pistachio milk cake was ordered because we love milk cake, but this one didn’t hold a candle against the high-street milk cakes. It soon became a regret that we couldn’t even complete.
Kesar Mango Rasmalai was a bit better, but I am an Indian Bengali by origin, and this is a Bengali sweet. In totality, a Rasmalai is a milk dumpling that melts in the mouth immediately, but this one was more chewy. However, the Alphonso mango cream and berry chutney were good.
Food Quality and Taste
The biggest question in any Jamavar London review is simple: is the food actually good enough to justify the hype?
In general, the answer comes down to whether you value refinement as much as flavour. Jamavar is not trying to be the biggest, cheapest or most casual Indian restaurant in London. Its appeal is in a more polished style of cooking, where presentation, balance and setting all play a role.
What diners usually want from a restaurant like this is:
- bold but controlled spice
- clear flavour in each dish
- high-quality ingredients
- attention to detail
- consistency across the meal
When Jamavar works well, the food feels carefully judged rather than showy. That matters because fine dining Indian food can sometimes drift too far into style over substance. A good meal here should still deliver warmth, richness and recognisable depth of flavour, even in a more refined format.
The starters definitely delivered in style, a balance of flavours and depth. However, Jamavar still has a long way to go in being consistent and delivering a whole meal as a package.
Service Experience
Service is a big part of the Jamavar experience because restaurants at this level are judged on more than food alone. Diners expect to feel looked after without being rushed, and the best service in a fine dining restaurant is often the kind you notice because everything flows naturally.
Good service at Jamavar London should include:
- a warm welcome
- confident menu knowledge
- helpful recommendations
- smooth pacing between courses
- attention without hovering
The service, in my opinion, was again not the Mayfair service that I have been conditioned to. I had a warm welcome, but after that, it felt like things just drifted away.
Jamavar London Prices
Jamavar London is a premium restaurant, so expect a higher-than-average spend. It is better suited to diners looking for a special occasion restaurant than an everyday meal. That does not automatically make it overpriced, but it does mean value becomes one of the most important parts of the review.

We ordered a cocktail of Masala Chai-Tini, a Cobra Lager and 2 Lychee Coolers along with the above menu. We spent around £250 in total.
Does the quality justify the spend? The entire experience may be, but we also know by experience there are other fine dinning restaurant who are better at a better level.
It is less likely to feel worth it if you are simply looking for the best-value Indian meal in London. Jamavar is selling a full upscale dining package, not just plates of food.
You can do your research and check the Jamavar menu before:
- starter range- £15 to £34
- main course range – £22 to £65
- typical cost per person – £100 to £150
- drinks or wine pricing – £10 to £60
- tasting menu price – £130 plus £98 for accompanying Wine Flight
Is Jamavar London Worth the Price?
This is the key question for most people. Jamavar is expensive, and there is no way around that. You are paying Mayfair prices for Michelin-starred dining, so it is best approached as a special occasion restaurant rather than an everyday meal out. If you go in expecting luxury pricing, the experience makes much more sense.
In my honest opinion, Jamavar is a one-time experience restaurant. Worth it if you value a beautiful setting. But if you want to experience a fine dining restaurant where you would like to go back time and again, there are other choices like Veeraswamy, Gymkhana, Amaya, etc.

If your priority is simply getting the biggest portion for the lowest price, this will not be the right fit.
If you are planning a full London food itinerary, it is worth mixing polished fine dining with more relaxed and trend-led spots too. For example, The Tamil Prince Review Islington: London’s Trendy Restaurant Experience gives a very different perspective on Indian-influenced dining in the city, with a more casual and buzzy atmosphere.
Who Should Visit Jamavar London?
Jamavar London is best for:
- couples planning a date night in Mayfair
- people celebrating a birthday or anniversary
- visitors looking for a luxury Indian restaurant in London
- business diners who want a polished setting
- Food lovers interested in upscale Indian cooking
It is probably less ideal for:
- casual weeknight dinners
- budget-conscious diners
- large groups wanting a louder, more relaxed atmosphere
- Anyone expecting traditional curry-house value
A restaurant can be excellent and still not be for everyone. Jamavar feels strongest when approached as an occasion restaurant rather than an everyday one.
Final Verdict on Jamavar London
Jamavar London aims to deliver the kind of experience many people want from a Mayfair restaurant: polished interiors, upscale energy and Indian food presented in a more refined, luxury format. But it has a long way to go.
If you are choosing Jamavar for a celebration, a date night or a business dinner, it makes sense. The location, atmosphere and overall feel all support that premium positioning. If your priority is simply finding the most satisfying Indian meal for the lowest price, there are better-value options elsewhere in London.
